Goretail's shells hide its vividly blinding light spots on its body that make it a huge center of attention in the deep dark waters it lives in. It uses its tail end like a harpoon to grapple and puncture prey to gain access to their bodily fluids.

To withstand the crushing water pressure deep under the sea, its spine is very thick and sturdy. A Goretail siphons the body fluids of prey through its thin, tubular mouth.
