As nocturnal Pokémon, Hootki are said to wander at night in search of spirits to consume. Many cultures keep these Pokémon with them while they sleep, having them look out for malicious spirits who may give them nightmares.
It never lets go of a key that it likes, so people give it the keys to vaults and safes as a way to prevent crime. It has an internal organ that senses the earth's rotation.
