Joltlup slide around on ice, even if just for their amusement, almost all the time. The friction of them sliding builds a static charge in their bristly fur. If they crash or fall into water, they inadvertently discharge their stored electricity.

Because it is very proud, it hates accepting food from people. Its cells generate weak power that is amplified by its fur's static electricity to drop thunderbolts.
