If a Litper still has gills, it is young. After a few years, the light on its head burns away and the gills light. This is a special moment in Litper's life, marking the transition away from youth.

Litper usually live in water but come out onto land seeking food occasionally. While shining a light and pretending to be a guide, it leeches off the life force of any who follow it.
