By sensing the changes in the tides with their sensitive fins, Lupert can sense incoming storms from miles away. They are often seen building stone walls along the shore to prevent flooding in nearby towns before disappearing into the water.

If it senses the approach of a storm and a tidal wave, it protects its seaside nest by piling up boulders. Lupert is so powerful even a light fluttering of its wings can blow apart houses.
