Necroeon live in deep, underwater caves that are hard for humans to traverse. As they swim through the darkness, their multicolored frills illuminate the tunnels in brilliant light. By reflecting natural light, they become nearly invisible in water.

Necroeon underwent a spontaneous mutation and grew fins and gills that allow them to live underwater. Light is apparently the source of its energy.
