An attempt to update this Pokémon with a new program went awry, causing it to unceasingly overwrite the mineral data that had been used to create it. In an effort to slow the overwriting, it burrows in search of data cables so it may absorb new data.
When it curls up in a ball, it can make any attack bounce off harmlessly. Additional software was installed to make it a better Pokémon.
