Shellgle uses the brightly coloured fluid on its tail to paint scary faces on its shell. While the faces often look goofy to humans, this discourages many Pokémon from trying to crack Shellgle's shell open.

A Shellgle marks its territory using a fluid that leaks out from the tip of its tail. At night, it burrows a hole in the seafloor with its broad tongue to make a place to sleep.
