Smootic loathes being even the slightest bit dirty; it will start to shed its scales the moment they lose their sheen. Although Smootic itself is seldom ever spotted, its discarded scales are occasionally found washed up on the shoreline.

It is said to live at the bottom of large lakes. It actively runs about, but also falls often.
