Since Sandishrew has the ability to roll, it can get to locations where prey has collapsed quickly and eat the body while it's still fresh. Its hide has become very coarse due to it always being submerged in the sand when roaming.
When it curls up in a ball, it can make any attack bounce off harmlessly. It moves along below the sand's surface, except for its nose and eyes.
