The size of the tree of electric energy on Tortik's back is an indicator of how healthy it is. To keep it sustained, it bites larger beings and drains them of static electricity.
They attach themselves to large-bodied Pokémon and absorb static electricity, which they store in an electric pouch. Small Pokémon occasionally gather on its unmoving back to begin building their nests.
