Volcakoal dig through mountains in search of coal to fuel their flames. When endangered, they will blow up black soot and flames from their backs before scurrying away. Stories say that Volcakoal caused volcanic ash to darken the world's atmosphere.

It battles using energy it gets from burning coal. A sea of fire engulfs the surroundings of their battles, since they use their six wings to scatter their ember scales.
