Weepintail gulps up water quickly to create a vacuum to suck up prey into its mouth. The mouth at the tip of its tail dispenses an acidic substance to dissuade predators from sneaking up from behind.

To withstand the crushing water pressure deep under the sea, its spine is very thick and sturdy. At night, a Weepintail hangs on to a tree branch with its hooked rear and sleeps.
