Dhelmer frequently drift within deep waters, letting themselves be carried by currents to move around. They become immobile when they rest, which they may do during meals of seaweed and moss; this has led for both to grow upon their bodies.

While this Pokémon usually lives in the sea, it can survive on land, although not too long. The soul of seaweed adrift in the waves became reborn as this Pokémon.
