Hounsect ignite flames along their backs to illuminate the faces on their mushrooms and scare off predators. They laugh to themselves once they're safe, spreading spores to grow more smiling mushrooms and mark their territory.

Hounsect are known to infest the roots of large trees en masse and drain nutrients. In a Hounsect pack, the one with its horns raked sharply back serves a leadership role.
