The plume on Natortle's head is usually kept folded down, but flares up in threat displays: a more reliable indicator of aggression than its perpetually-surly stare.

Its large tail is covered with rich, thick fur that deepens in color with age. It runs up short trees that grow on the savanna to peck at new shoots.
