Parabat wrap their bodies in thick strands of mycelium, helping to protect themselves from physical harm. They are totally blind, relying on their sonar to navigate as they scuttle around dark caves.

Parabat scavenges for food inside pitch-black caverns, and seems to sense its surroundings using the mushrooms growing on its body. If the fungus senses the scent of decay in the air, it will direct Parabat towards this potential source of food.

While living in pitch-black caverns, their eyes gradually grew shut and deprived them of vision. Parabat are known to infest the roots of large trees en masse and drain nutrients.
