With only the top of its head above the surface, Paranix is often mistaken for a large mushroom. The rest of its body remains underground, burrowing through the soil to leech life from tree roots.

There is a magnet in its brain that prevents an Paranix from losing direction while tunneling. Paranix are known to infest the roots of large trees en masse and drain nutrients.
