The membrane on a Pabat's wings is actually formed of a fungus's fruiting body. If the fungus doesn't have enough moisture, Pabat develops holes in its wings that prevent it from flying.
While living in pitch-black caverns, their eyes gradually grew shut and deprived them of vision. A Pabat has parasitic tochukaso mushrooms growing on its back.
