Shellsect hides under sand until someone steps on it, then licks their foot. Its tongue contains many dangerous spores, so licking someone allows Shellsect to infect them with its fungus.

Shellsect are known to infest the roots of large trees en masse and drain nutrients. At night, it burrows a hole in the seafloor with its broad tongue to make a place to sleep.
