While propelling itself through the water using its wing-like fins, Crotortle uses its large, fluffy tail like a rudder. It rests during the day and only hunts once the water becomes dark, relying on its keen eyesight and hearing to find prey.

Its large tail is covered with rich, thick fur that deepens in color with age. Over the course of evolution, its hind legs turned into wings.
