Whimsisect's body is controlled by a puffball mushroom on its back. The slightest breeze causes this fungus to scatter fluffy white spores into the air, and in strong winds they will all be blown away, leaving Whimsisect's back exposed until they regrow.
Whimsisect are known to infest the roots of large trees en masse and drain nutrients. Riding whirlwinds, they appear.
